Normally the calling subscriber pays for a phone call (and the sender pays for data packets sent and for SMS messages, both the MO message from the senders phone to the SMSC and MT message from the SMSC to the receivers phone). With reverse charging some or all of the charge is paid by the receiver. More costly, premium rate, SMS services often require SMS reverse billing so that the subscribing customer pays for the information delivered in an MT message.
